About Samantha Symes
Lets look at your challenges, both work and personal; we can separate them but it’s still all you.
I’m a therapist in my 50’s that offers Psychology & Psychotherapy services from a relational, wholistic and pragmatic perspective. I aim to provide awareness, change & hopefully action.
I think everyone should experience a therapeutic relationship at least once.
As a Psychologist and a relational Psychotherapist, I believe it’s all about relationships; at home, socially, at work and most importantly with yourself.
I initally gained a business degree with a major in Marketing, worked in Sydney in sales/marketing, then moved to London for work and travel and started in recruitment. Working in private banking recruitment for 2.5 years, I then returned to Sydney to work as a State Sales Manager & then HR/recruitment again.
I’ve worked with people who have wanted to make changes regarding work and have supported or guided their choices, working with them to find solutions. In my roles I have managed and hired staff, was a State Sales Manager and worked with candidates & employers to find new roles, change careers and supported organisational change.
The motivations, behaviours & thinking from candidates/clients fascinated me, I wanted to know more and was ready to make a drastic career change myself. I studied Psychology part-time at university for 8 years, and trained in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy for an intense 4 yrs, all whilst working, to arrive right here. Having both types of training is important to how I work with you, as your therapist.
I like having and building my own business; I’ve had my solo private practice since 2011 and also continue to work part- time as an employee. I work for an EAP organisation; (Employee Assistant Programs) as a Senior Consulting Psychologist, where therapy is provided to employees and have also worked in employee rehabilitation. I’ve worked in EAP since 2014 and I feel this keeps me in touch with workers across various sectors. Working in EAP ensures my knowledge regarding work/workers/workplace issues from all types of backgrounds and vocational sectors remains current and also provides firsthand, ongoing experience as an employee myself.
It also changes up my week from being in private practice!
